How long does an egg stay there for in the womens ovaries?
From start to finish? How long?
A baby girl is born with all her eggs already in her ovaries. Most of them do not mature, but just stay there dormant or are absorbed by the body. A mature egg takes about one year in total (13 menstrual cycles) to develop from a bunch of these primitive immature eggs.
Then this mature egg bursts out of its follicle and travels down the fallopian tube where is may or may not be fertilised.
If it’s fertilised it implants itself into the womb lining and develops into a baby, if not then it is shed along with the next period.
